Belton Oxygen paint spray can in the German Emigration Center

Three years ago, in 2021, I received an unusual request from a design agency in Hamburg. Whether I could sell one of my last Belton Oxygen 400 ml spray cans to the German Emigration Center in Bremerhaven. The background was that great importance should be placed on an authentic setting of the exhibition in the mid-90s in Germany.

The can can now be viewed in the museum’s permanent exhibition…

Ja, und jetzt fragte er mich  ob ich ihn nicht kommunikativ unterstützen könne. »Klar, mache ich doch gerne …« und so entstand das Corporate Design als Online-und Print-Artwork für 496 Run4Kids. Die Idee hinter Run$Kids st so einfach, wie genial: 496 km … das sind die Gesamtkilometer, die ein Läufer oder eine Läuferin über einen Monat, in dem Fall im Dezember 2024 absolviert, wenn er/sie täglich die Datumsziffer als Distanz in Kilometern laufen. Das Ganze wird dann als Geldsumme an den Verein Hilfe für Krebskranke Kinder in Frankfurt gespendet. Wieder mal ein Buch zum Thema Graffiti, werden sicher einige denken, die sich mit dem Thema ausführlicher beschäftigen. Aber diesmal ist es eines über das Wurzelwerk des Stylewritings, dem richtigen Wort für Graffiti, dem eigentlichen gestalterischem Hintergrund, der Schriftgestaltung bzw. der Typografie, des so genannten Styles, initiiert durch Joe Hennig, selbst Teil des Graffitiwriting-Künstlerkollektivs Majo Brothers aus Düsseldorf. Heutzutage wimmelt es ja in den angeblich sozialen Netzwerken von so genannten Legenden dieses Bereichs. In Zeiten bevor es Print- bzw. Online-Magazine (Juxtapoze und wie sie alle heissen) und Internet gab, existierten allerdings auch schon Menschen, die sich damit befassten, eigene Stilistiken in die Form gesprühter Schriftbilder zu realisieren. Das Besondere des Buches an diesem Printwerk liegt in der Alphabetisierung der eigenen Stilistik der Writer und auf persönliche Nutzbarkeit der eigenen Stilistik als so genannter Font. Einen Teil davon findet man in dem Ende des Monats erscheinenden Buch »TYPOGRAFFITI-Fonts of True Writers von A bis Z«. Heutzutage ein Standardspielzeug für jeden Benutzer eines Rechners, war dies Anfang/Mitte der 90er Jahre noch etwas ganz besonderes. So wundert es nicht, daß mein allererster digital nutzbarer (und setzbarer) Stylewriting-Font Essohnesenf aus dem Jahr 1993 darin Verwendung findet. Damals zeichnete ich auf einem Wacom Zeichentablett in Fontographer auf einem Apple MacIntosh Quadra 950 in den heiligen Hallen von Logic Records (Snap=Luca Adelchi Anzilotti & Michael Münzing) in der Strahlenberger Straße in Offenbach unter der Ägide von Eike König und Sascha Müller Lüönd. FontShop Gründer und Typo-Ikone Erik Spiekermann, den ich damals den Schriftschnitt per Post als Ausdruck schickte, zeigte sich sehr begeistert. Zur internen Einweihung des 200-Millionen Euro Projektes wurden von uns insgesamt knapp 80 Textilien für die Azubis, Mitarbeiter und die Geschäftsführung personalisiert bzw. die Kleidungsstücke customized. Jedes Objekt wurde in einer Art Produktionsstraße durch uns zum Unikat mit Schablonen besprüht, teils in mehreren Schritten und mit mehreren Farbschichten; für die Geschäftsführer Henning und Steffen Strauss in Neontönen auf schwarzen Kitteln, für alle anderen in regulären Farbtönen. Schon 2010 gestaltete ich für Engelbert Strauss diverse Dekor-Designs für Shorts und T-Shirts und Anfang 2011 Dekorationen für den damals neu entstandenen Workwearstore an der Zentrale in Biebergemünd. For the internal inauguration of the 200-million-euro project, a total of nearly 80 textiles were personalized for the trainees, employees and the management, and the garments were customized. Each object was sprayed with stencils in a kind of production street through us to the unique, partly in several steps and with several color layers; for the managing directors Henning and Steffen Strauss in neon colors on black smocks, for all others in regular shades. ]]> Personalisierte Bekleidung für Engelbert Strauss CI Factory

Engelbert Strauss‘ Corporate Factory wurde gerade am 30.11.2019 bei Schlüchtern eröffnet. Zur internen Einweihung des 200-Millionen Euro Projektes wurden von uns insgesamt knapp 80 Textilien für die Azubis, Mitarbeiter und die Geschäftsführung personalisiert bzw. die Kleidungsstücke customized. Jedes Objekt wurde in einer Art Produktionsstraße durch uns zum Unikat mit Schablonen besprüht, teils in mehreren Schritten und mit mehreren Farbschichten; für die Geschäftsführer Henning und Steffen Strauss in Neontönen auf schwarzen Kitteln, für alle anderen in regulären Farbtönen.

Lufthansa bekam am Terminal 1 am Flughafen Frankfurt drei Eingangstüren, zwei Innenwände und einen Konferenzraum neu- bzw. umgestaltet. Im Rahmen der neu gestalteten bzw. redesignten, allerdings sehr umstrittenen CI/Corporate Design Vorgaben setzte ich die Türen freihand mit Kranich-Motiven/Flughafen Themen und das neue Corporate Signet als Stencil/Schablone um. Warum das prägnante Maisgelb aus dem Lufthansa-Signet verschwand und anderen Anbietern, wie z.B. Ryan Air das (Farb-)Feld überlassen wird, ist nicht nur mir ein Rätsel. Weiterhin ist die Verschlankung der Ästhetik nicht nur ein Vorteil. Die Fernwirkung hat definitiv gelitten. Einzig die aufgeräumte Lufthansa-Helvetica, die jetzt in Richtung Univers tendiert, hat gewonnen. Dafür aber das gesamte Corporate Design zu schlimmerholen, hätte es meiner Meinung nach nicht gebraucht. Nichtsdestotrotz, es hat großen Spaß für die große Traditionsfluglinie Lufthansa zu sprühen. As part of the newly designed or redesigned, but very controversial CI / corporate design specifications, I set the doors free hand with crane motifs / airport themes and the new corporate signet as a stencil / stencil. Makers of the now: Die Fraport AG, Betreiber des Frankfurter Flughafens bekam ihr Innovation Hub, kurz Inno.Hub 2.0 am Terminal 2 installiert und wir von Atelier Bomber durften Mäuschen spielen und den Teilnehmern zeigen, wie Geübte mit den Materialien und Werkzeugen Farbsprühdose, Klebeband / Tape, Marker, Farbwalze / Maus, Schablone / Stencil usw. umgehen. Über insgesamt drei Tage vom 27. bis zum 29.05.2019 wurde zu humanen Zeiten in den frisch renovierten Flächen in unterschiedlichen offenen Teams konzeptioniert, ausgewählt und umgesetzt. Man konnte dazustoßen und die Gruppen jederzeit wieder verlassen. Innovative Unternehmenskultur? Dass Arbeit Spaß machen darf stand dabei ebenso im Vordergrund, wie die offene Maßgabe, daß nahezu alles möglich ist. Sollten doch die Teilnehmer eben ihre eigenen Arbeitsflächen mitgestalten. Schließlich dürfen sie die meiste Zeit dort verbringen. Neben den Toiletten, Flure, Eingang und dem Leitsystem wurden ebenso so genannte Workshopräume und Socialrooms mit Gestaltungen versehen. Wichtig hierbei war, daß die themenbezogenen Visualisierungen inspirierend auf die Raumbesucher wirken sollen. Heureka – I got it ! Makers of the now.: Die Fraport AG, operator of the Airport Frankfurt am Main has its Innovation hub, in short Inno.Hub 2.0 at Terminal 2 and we, Atelier Bomber artists, were allowed to be part of it while showing their guest how professionals work with tools, cans of spray paint, glues, tape, marker paint roller, mouse, template, stencil… From 27th of May until 29th of May 2019 the working atmosphere was relaxed in renovated rooms where teams did conceptioning, choosing and realising in innovative, open and volontary groups. Corporate culture? We had new ideas in the foreground like work can be fun and everything is possible. The participants can create their own working environment, because it’s their own work where toilets, corridors, entrance areas, control systems, workshoprooms and socialrooms were created within considerable humane resources, which related thematically to the guest and could inspired some of them.
