Anscheinend ist ja oft unsere einzige Antwort auf ohnmächtige Situationen, der Konsum. Es gibt aber noch andere Wege als den Tauschzwang, z.B. Protest, Hilfe und aktives Gestalten/Schenken. Wie schon in unseren wilden Jahren mit so genannten illegalen Werken haben alle beteiligten Artists (unter anderem meine alten Buddies Darko, Scotty 76 und Eike König) ihre Zeit und ihr Artwork geschenkt und gespendet. Unter der Schirmherrschaft von Jan Delay und von der Personalberatung five14 initiierte und veranstaltete Aktion NICE, die künstlerisch gestaltete Sneaker (Adidas Superstars) von insgesamt 60 Artists pro bono erstellen ließ, startet jetzt die Auktion auch des von mir gestalteten Sneakers. Der Erlös der A(u)ktion fließt in das kostenlose Kursangebot des Esche Jugendkunsthaus in Hamburg-Altona. Das Esche Jugendkunsthaus bietet seit 2016 für Jugendliche kostenlose Kreativkurse – von Breakdance und Graffiti über Gesang und Rap bis hin zu Theater, Zeichenkursen und mehr an. In den Workshops können Kinder und Jugendliche ohne Erwartungsdruck und Notenstress ihre künstlerischen Fähigkeiten entdecken. Rund 200 Jugendliche besuchen jede Woche die Angebote der Esche. Laut Desmond Tutu ist eh alles geschenkt. Wir haben nichts dafür getan und dürfen trotzdem hier sein. Dafür und für alles andere sollten wir dankbar sein. Man sollte sich nur dran erinnern können, inmitten des Wahnsinns.

Wie schon in unseren wilden Jahren mit so genannten illegalen Werken haben alle beteiligten Artists (unter anderem meine alten Buddies Darko, Scotty 76 und Eike König) ihre Zeit und ihr Artwork geschenkt und gespendet.

Unter der Schirmherrschaft von Jan Delay und von der Personalberatung five14 initiierte und veranstaltete Aktion NICE, die künstlerisch gestaltete Sneaker (Adidas Superstars) von insgesamt 60 Artists pro bono erstellen ließ, startet jetzt die Auktion auch des von mir gestalteten Sneakers.

Wieder mal ein Buch zum Thema Graffiti, werden sicher einige denken, die sich mit dem Thema ausführlicher beschäftigen. Aber diesmal ist es eines über das Wurzelwerk des Stylewritings, dem richtigen Wort für Graffiti, dem eigentlichen gestalterischem Hintergrund, der Schriftgestaltung bzw. der Typografie, des so genannten Styles, initiiert durch Joe Hennig, selbst Teil des Graffitiwriting-Künstlerkollektivs Majo Brothers aus Düsseldorf. Heutzutage wimmelt es ja in den angeblich sozialen Netzwerken von so genannten Legenden dieses Bereichs. In Zeiten bevor es Print- bzw. Online-Magazine (Juxtapoze und wie sie alle heissen) und Internet gab, existierten allerdings auch schon Menschen, die sich damit befassten, eigene Stilistiken in die Form gesprühter Schriftbilder zu realisieren. Das Besondere des Buches an diesem Printwerk liegt in der Alphabetisierung der eigenen Stilistik der Writer und auf persönliche Nutzbarkeit der eigenen Stilistik als so genannter Font. Einen Teil davon findet man in dem Ende des Monats erscheinenden Buch »TYPOGRAFFITI-Fonts of True Writers von A bis Z«. Heutzutage ein Standardspielzeug für jeden Benutzer eines Rechners, war dies Anfang/Mitte der 90er Jahre noch etwas ganz besonderes. So wundert es nicht, daß mein allererster digital nutzbarer (und setzbarer) Stylewriting-Font Essohnesenf aus dem Jahr 1993 darin Verwendung findet. Damals zeichnete ich auf einem Wacom Zeichentablett in Fontographer auf einem Apple MacIntosh Quadra 950 in den heiligen Hallen von Logic Records (Snap=Luca Adelchi Anzilotti & Michael Münzing) in der Strahlenberger Straße in Offenbach unter der Ägide von Eike König und Sascha Müller Lüönd. Fonts of True Writers von A bis Z.

Pressetext: Architektur, Typografie und Graffiti sind von jeher eng verbunden. Vielen Writern dient die Architektur als Leinwand, auf der mit Typografie und Graffiti experimentiert wird.

While we’re having a great time in Italy, I get the email that a book project is about to be released. Another book on the subject of graffiti, some people will probably think who deal with the subject in more detail. But this time it’s about the roots of style writing, the right word for graffiti, the actual design background, font design or typography, the so-called style, initiated by Joe Hennig, himself part of the graffiti-writing artist collective Majo Brothers from Düsseldorf.

Nowadays the supposedly social networks are teeming with so-called legends of this area. In times before there were print or online magazines (Juxtapoze and whatever they are called) and the Internet, there were already people who dealt with realizing their own styles in the form of sprayed typefaces. The special thing about the book is the literacy of the writer’s own style.

A part of it can be found in the book »TYPOGRAFFITI-Fonts of True Writers from A to Z«, which will be published at the end of the month. The special thing about this print is the focus on personal usability of your own style as a so-called font. Nowadays a standard toy for every user of a computer, this was still something very special in the early / mid-90s. So it is not surprising that my very first digitally usable (and settable) style writing font Essohnesenf (Eatwithoutmustard) from 1993 is used in it.

At that time I drew on a Wacom drawing tablet in Fontographer on an Apple MacIntosh Quadra 950 in the hallowed halls of Logic Records (Snap = Luca Adelchi Anzilotti & Michael Münzing) under the aegis of Eike König and Sascha Müller Lüönd.

FontShop founder and type icon Erik Spiekermann, to whom I sent the font style by post as a printout, was very enthusiastic.

Among other things, there are alphabets from Ash, Cario, Delta, Fume, Gismo, Inka, Loomit, Nash, Semor, Sign, Toast, Won.
