Die Befreiung des Alphabets

Und schon wieder ein Buch … Nein, diesmal kein Ratrace Produkt a.k.a. »jeder der mal eine Dose geschwungen bzw. einmal Styles realisiert hat veröffentlicht jetzt ein Buch« (da die Deutungshoheit so enorm wichtig wird), sondern eine lange überfällige Neuauflage des »Theorie des Style/Theory of Style« von 1996 von CHEECH H, SCUM aka CEMNOZ und TECHNO 169 aka STONE aka DON Karl. Grafische Gesamtkonzeption damals noch von Mirko Borsche, damals noch eher unter seinem Stylewriting-Graffiti-Street Art Pseudonym SMAL aus München bekannt. Meine Wenigkeit hatte damals auch eine Stylevariation von 1991 (gleich auf Seite 4 und 5) beitragen dürfen.

Das Teilchen kann direkt hier beim Verlag geordert werden und ist meiner Meinung nach für das Verständnis des Stylewriting/Graffiti von enormer Bedeutung:

And yet another book… No, this time not a Ratrace product a.k.a. »everyone who has ever wielded a can or ever realized styles is now publishing a book« (since the sovereignty of interpretation is becoming so enormously important), but a long overdue new edition of the »Theory of Style« from 1996 by CHEECH H, SCUM aka CEMNOZ and TECHNO 169 aka STONE aka DON Karl. The overall graphic concept at the time was by Mirko Borsche, who was then better known under his style writing graffiti street art pseudonym SMAL from Munich. My humble self was also allowed to contribute a style variation from 1991 (on pages 4 and 5).

As I always say? Alphabet is writing in a straitjacket…

Further works include DAZE, CHEECH H, PHASE2, DELTA, TECHNO169 (STONE), BANDO, DAIM, SHOE, SMAL, ATOME, BATES, SCUM (CEMNOZ), AMOK, PUPPET, SKENA, PAZE, CALEB, DARCO, and NEON.

Jetzt wo es allenthalben Ausstellungen zum Thema Hip Hop und deren Auswirkungen auf unseren Alltag hat, wo auf einmal das museal und schützenswert erscheint, was für viele von uns Jugend und Lebensinhalt bedeutet(e) kommen auch immer mehr Printprodukte dazu heraus, z.B. Bücher. Ich freue mich über die Würdigung meines Textes und meines frühen Artworks unter vielen alten Weggefährten im neuen Buch »Wall Street Meeting – Destroy and Rebuild (ISBN 978-3-00-074650-5)« von Manuel Gerullis zu finden.

Nicht nur zufällig könnte der Buchtitel auch für ein klassisches Architekturwerk herhalten, stellt doch wildes Graffiti tatsächlich rein rechtlich den Tatbestand der Sachbeschädigung dar, obwohl die Sache an sich gar nicht ihres wirklichen Nutzens beraubt wird. Was man von architektonischer Herangehensweise oftmals nicht wirklich behaupten kann. Manuel, der Initiator dieses vermutlich wichtigsten Street Art-/Graffiti Art-Festivals (seit 1997) und DBL-Crewbuddy plant das Europäische Hip Hop Museum in Wiesbaden.

Culture that wasn’t allowed to exist for a long time …

Now that there are exhibitions everywhere on the subject of hip hop and its effects on our everyday lives, where what suddenly appears to be a museum and worth protecting, which means youth and the meaning of life for many of us, more and more are coming Print products, e.g. books. I am pleased that my text and my early artwork have been recognized among many old companions in the new book »Wall Street Meeting – Destroy and Rebuild (ISBN 978-3-00-0746505)« by Manuel Gerullis.

It is not just a coincidence that the title of the book could also be used for a classic work of architecture, as wild graffiti actually legally constitutes the offense of damage to property, even though the thing itself is not deprived of its real use. Something that can often not really be said about an architectural approach.

Manuel, the initiator of what is probably the most important street art/graffiti art festival (since 1997) and DBL crew buddy, is planning the European Hip Hop Museum in Wiesbaden.

Im zwielichten Schein der Diskrepanz zwischen Erschaffen und Konsumieren haben wir heutzutage die zusätzliche Komponente der Selbstdarstellung im Netz/Internet/sozialer Netzwerke (wo ist da die soziale Komponente, wenn jeder solo oder alleine vor seinem Endgerät sitzt, läuft, fährt?)/Messenger.

Selbstdarstellung bzw. Darstellung in Zeiten analoger Kommunikation war etwas gemächlicher, aber nicht minder interessanter.

Vor ca. genau 26 Jahren im April 1994 wurden CEMNOZ/David Kammerer, DAIM/Mirko Reisser, CANTWO/Fedor Wildhardt und ich/BOMBER von unserem Freund GOR/Darco Gellert aus Paris angesprochen, ob wir uns an einem Flächengestaltung am Gare du Nord in Paris für die französische Staatsbahn beteiligen wollen.

Hintergrund waren zwei Flächen der ca. Größen 6 m x 90 m mit jeweils unterschiedlich gefärbtem Background. Die Linke war gelb und die rechte in blau mit Graffinet, einem angeblichen Graffitischutz gestrichen. Unsere Herausforderung lag darin, TROTZ des chemischen Schutzes Artwork auf die Oberflächen aufzubringen. Dies gelang besser, als gedacht. Nach nur zwei-bis viermaligen Übersprühen hielt die Sprayfarbe, damals noch Sparvar von SprayColor. Trotz der widrigsten Umstände – uns wurde der uns zur Verfügung gestellte Wagon mit den Farbspühdosen direkt vor den Fassadenflächen aufgebrochen und komplett entleert – hatten wir fünf einen Riesenspaß beim Erstellen dieser weithin sichtbaren Werke. Leider wurden die Werke nachts von anderen mit Sprühdosen verunziert. Allerdings waren das ganz sicher keine wirklichen Writer, bzw. Graffiti Künstler, denn das Aufgesprühte hieß einfach nur »Muslim Force« ;-(.

Wir übernachteten in einem Wohnheim für Bahnarbeiter in besonders trostloser hässlicher Umgebung, (meiner Erinnerung nach in der Avenue Paul Valéry in Sarcelles) und durften uns dort selbst versorgen. Dafür durften wir immer kostenfrei mit der Bahn zum Arbeitsplatz direkt an den Gleisen des Kopfbahnhofs pilgern.

Ein wahnwitziges Unterfangen, dessen Ergebnis aber sehr lange vorhielt.

In the twilight of the discrepancy between creating and consuming, we now have the additional component of self-portrayal on the net / Internet / social networks (where is the social component when everyone is sitting or running alone in front of their device?) / Messenger.

Self-presentation or presentation in times of analog communication was a little more leisurely, but no less interesting.

Exactly 26 years ago in April 1994, CEMNOZ / David Kammerer, DAIM / Mirko Reisser, CANTWO / Fedor Wildhardt and me / BOMBER were approached by our friend GOR / Darco Gellert from Paris whether we would like to look at a surface design on the Gare du Nord in Want to participate in Paris for the French State Railways.

The background was two areas of approx. Sizes 6 m x 90 m, each with a differently colored background. The left was yellow and the right was painted blue with graffinet, an alleged protection from graffiti. Our challenge was to apply the chemical protection artwork to the surfaces. This worked better than expected. After only two or four sprayings, the spray paint, then Sparvar from SprayColor, held. Despite the most adverse circumstances, – the wagon provided to us with the paint spray cans was broken open directly in front of the facade surfaces and completely emptied – , the five of us had a lot of fun creating these highly visible works. Unfortunately, the plants were sprayed with spray cans at night. However, they were definitely not real writers or graffiti artists, because the sprayed on was just called »Muslim Force« ;-(.

We stayed in a dormitory for train workers in a particularly bleak ugly environment (I remember it on Avenue Paul Valéry in Sarcelles) and were allowed to take care of ourselves there. To do this, we were always allowed to make a pilgrimage to the work station directly on the tracks at the head station.

It was a crazy undertaking, but the result was existing very long.
